The cheapest cover you'll ever sell: CRM and the repeat-guest rate

CRM and retention for restaurants

Restaurants obsess over new guest acquisition because it is visible, and neglect retention because it is quiet. Yet the economics are lopsided: a guest who already had a good evening needs a reason to return, not a convincing. That reason costs a message, not a media budget.

A practical retention loop starts at the table: capture consent gracefully, tag the occasion, and follow up while the memory is still warm. Birthday months, seasonal menus, a chef's table announcement — each is a reason to write that does not read like a discount blast.

Measure the repeat-guest rate the way you measure food cost. When it moves, everything downstream — reviews, referrals, weekday covers — moves with it. When it doesn't, no campaign will save the P&L for long.
